About
In a nutshell
Born in multicultural Malaysia, Natalie Roberts grew up in close contact with several major world religions. She was dedicated as a godchild to two Chinese deities, with whom she communed frequently as a teenager, and writes from first-hand experience of the supernatural. She has a unique perspective on eastern and western spirituality, having spent the first half of her life as a traditional Taoist in Southeast Asia and the second half as a migrant Christian in New Zealand. She lives in Hawke’s Bay with her husband and baby daughter.
Bigger than a nutshell
Raised by a family of staunch Taoists and Buddhists, Natalie was a devoted follower of the religion known as “the Way.” But at eighteen, she was betrayed by the gods of her people. Forced to choose between a lie and an unknown, she took a chance on the latter and discovered the God of Israel. She’s spent her life following Him since and has a passion for realising her favourite Bible passage, Jeremiah 9:23–24, in her own life and the lives of others:
“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the LORD.
Hers is the story of one person’s encounter with the transformative power of Christianity and the battle between good and evil as witnessed through one Hakka clan’s family saga. Her writings have been produced over a decade of active blogging, Facebooking and online apologetics, and will be released gradually via thematically arranged books.
Natalie is an admirer of classical Chinese poetry, Celtic Christian prog rock band IONA and TV detective Adrian Monk. She also enjoys good cooking, intelligent stand-up comedy and the Green Lantern mythos, which has provided some of the most striking allegories for kingdom life, in her opinion, to be found in modern pop culture.
